Arum in January
Arum?
Within the last 2 weeks I have seen some of what I think is arum growing beautifully in the cold January weather. The leaves were still green and happy! Here is a photo of it. I am wondering if that is what it is, and if so, is it invasive here in KC area like it is in other parts of the country? - Debbie -

4 months agoYou are correct this is Arum italicum which is a shade loving perennial in our area. It is not invasive in this part of the country but in other areas it can be a problem. It emerges in the fall with foliage and than continues to grow in the spring. If it flowers the seedpods are very attractive. It will die down when it becomes hot and dry.
Enjoy the plant as it is a nice addition to the moist shade garden.
