Be careful with ice melts

Ice-covered shrub

Tip of the Week

We have now had two rounds of snow this winter and the forecast calls for more next week. Just a word about ice melts. Use with caution as they mainly work by breaking down into salts which can harm the concrete as well as our beloved plants. Less is more in this case. As they wash or move off the hard surfaces they can damage our lawns and nearby plants. So the bottom line is use as little as possible and keep them off the lawn and out of the beds. — Dennis, Johnson County Extension
