Q&A

I need to devide and transplant some iris Due to the heat they look sad. Would you move them or wait? Also the daylillies that are brown need to be thinned Move them or wait ? Thanks - Nancy -

This is difficult as now is the ideal time to divide iris and daylilies as they are in a summer dormancy. If you are going to water once uprooted and replanted I would go ahead with the task. If you are leaving them to fend for themselves during the drought I would wait.

Waiting is another option but if the plants do not put down a good root system by fall winterkill could be a possibility.

Another thought - If you have not been watering up to this point can you even get a shovel in the ground?

I have heard that the long range weather patterns is for a cooling trend. So maybe wait a couple of weeks and see what the future holds.
