Odd yellow lumps on mulch

There are these ugly looking blobs. When hosed down a brown powder blows off of them. What is it, and is it poison? - Patricia -

    This is a slime mold which is growing in the decaying mulch. It does not harm the plants. It can be left alone, washed off, or raked around to control. It is most common with moist weather. Bottom line, don’t worry about it. Dennis Johnson County Extension
