I bought a Quick Fire hydrangea this spring and put it in a spot with part sun. I kept it watered and it’s stayed real healthy but hasn’t grown at all. It’s only about 18 inches tall and wide and it’s supposed to grow up to 6-8 feet. Is that normal for the first year? Thanks - Cindy -

   There is a saying about new plants, “The first year it sleeps, the second year it creeps, and the third year it leaps.” So yes, that is normal. Kala Extension Master Gardener

   The heat was hard on hydrangeas this summer. So let’s hope next year is more favorable. I put in a couple of new hydrangeas this spring and got very little new growth also. Good news is it is alive - Dennis
