Something's wrong with my knockout roses

Q&A

I’ve had some knockouts for about 7 years and they’ve been problem free. This year they bloomed great but in the last three weeks the leaves have brown spots and look withered or wilted. I’m pretty sure I haven’t over-watered them or under-watered them. Do I need have a bug problem? Thanks - Brad -

Brad, we really need more information. Have you seen any insects on the buds or leaves? A picture would be very helpful to see the actual damage, as the problem could be any number of things: disease, insects or environmental. It would be good to know also how you have cared for them in more detail. With more info, we’ll be happy to help you.

Sorry, but I forgot to mention that you could bring in a fresh sample of the damage on your Knockouts to your local Extension Office. Carole JOCO Extension Master Gardener

From Brad — No insects seen. The roses bloomed on Memorial day like normal. We dead headed them couple weeks ago and since then they have looked brown and no new growth. We had a couple of good rains and we watered then some. Roses in front of the house are doing fine with less attention.
