9 months ago Trees and tomato wilt Q&A Can the presence of certain species of trees affect the health of tomato plants? - Mike - Comments Jo Co Master Gardener 8 months, 4 weeks ago Tomatoes or other susceptible plants like potato, blackberry, apple, and asparagus should not be grown near black walnut or other trees which produce juglone like some hickory trees. The removal of walnut trees may not have an immediate effect since the toxin can persist in the inner bark of roots for several years. Do not plant tomatoes for at least two years after the removal of walnuts. I hope this has helped. Ruth Sign in with Facebook to comment. Copyright 2014 The Kansas City Star. All rights reserved.
