Trimming beauty bushes

Do you know if beauty bushes can be pruned? Mine seems to grow in a way that makes shaping next to impossible. Are they just supposed to grow free form? - Ron -

You can prune beauty bushes and it should be done in each summer after flowering. Prune the flowered growth back by at least a third of their length - even further with an established plant. I would also cut out around one third of the older stems to ground level. This hard pruning will force the shrub to send out masses of new basal growth, which will ensure a good supply of flowering branches for years to come. Do this pruning every year - right after the shrub has flowered.
