Trimming leggy lantanas

Q&A

I’ve got a healthy lantana in a contained on my deck but it’s gotten very flat and leggy. If I cut back the long branches will it fill out more in the middle? Thanks! - Brad -

Lantana has a trailing habit, but you can trim it back by a third. It should recover quickly.

Generally, where you make the pruning cuts is where the regrowth will occur, so whether or not the center will fill in, I can’t say.

Lantana is a great container plant, comes in gorgeous colors, loves the heat and doesn’t require an overabundance of water. What more can we ask for.
