When to put hyacinth bulbs in the ground?

Q&A

Would like to order some hyacinth bulbs for the spring but not sure when to put them into the earth.

Similar question for transplanting a peony.. Last winter, on an unexpectedly warm day, I dug up some peony and moved it to a sunless, dry spot in my garage. I forgot about it, when I found it a couple of months later, it had already started to sprout. Would like to move another peony but not sure on timing/storage. Thanks in advance for your assistance! - Bess -

Fall is the best time to plant hyacinth bulbs; late September, October would be great.

October is a good time to transplant peonies, being sure to not plant them too deeply. The eyes should be about 1”, not more than 2” below ground.

Here are links to bulletins on bulbs and peonies: http://www.hfrr.ksu.edu/doc3174.ashx and http://www.ksre.ksu.edu/bookstore/pubs/mf2452.pdf

These will give you more detailed info on planting and culture.
