Should I be concerned? It has been thriving all spring and summer, and this week the leaves have begun the change to fall color.
I noticed that on several burning bushes around town lately. They turned red and are already falling off.
Could the same thing be affecting the serviceberry's as well as the BBs?
Oops, I almost forgot about this. Serviceberrys are prone to fungal leaf spot diseases that turn their leaves a very pretty mix of reds, yellows and orange. If you don'tknow it's disease (probably cedar serviceberry rust), you'd think it was beautiful. That may be what you're seeing, unless your entire shrub is turning color.
There could be several reasons but most are not that serious just more of a "looks" thing.
-Summer stress, this tree tends to shed leaves throughout with stress.
-leaf spot diseases - with the rainy spring weather the leaves have been attacked with a fungal disease. It causes general thinning.
-mites, a mite some times attacks, the leave yellow and then fall.
Controls, none really, just give the tree a little extra love this summer.
