Marjorie YatesMarjorie YatesGardening has long been my way to connect with nature and rejuvenate my spirits. Our yard in Liberty, Mo., includes rain and butterfly gardens, small herb and vegetable plots, several perennial beds and a wildflower meadow. While I focus more on perennials, favoring native grasses and flowers, I also use many bulbs and annuals for color throughout the yard. I enjoy experimenting with newly discovered plants and creative uses for the old standbys.

After completing the Greater Kansas City Master Gardener Program in 2006 I realized how little I really knew! I view gardening as a continuous learning quest. The many hands-on activities, seminars and personal interaction with other Master Gardeners constantly provide me with new knowledge and the opportunity to apply it.

Having just retired from a long career as Executive Director of the Liberty Housing Authority, I look forward to spending more time gardening at home and in many of the GKC Master Gardener Projects. Current GKC Master Gardening activities include Martha Lafite Thompson Nature Sanctuary, Watkins Woolen Mill State Park, Garden Angels and writing for the Back Fence Newsletter.
