Double mowing and pitchforks
The suggestion about mowing twice sounds quicker than my normal practice of using a blower that has a reverse mulcher on it. It works great but takes some time and gets jammed fairly often.
As for big piles of mulched rotting leaves and how long they take to break down into compost, I try to layer in mulched greenery from the gardens at the end of the season, then do some churning a few times with a pitchfork -- one of my best buys ever. It really speeds up the breakdown time for me. - Craig
Leaf Blower
I used to use the blower and still do from time to time, but only if I have the leaves raked into a pile. Then the reverse feature works. But to drag the blower around the yard in search of leaves is difficult. Another option is to mow the leaves into rows and then suck them up.
Composting with the green debris is a good idea and works just fine - Dennis
