About Us
Welcome to KC Gardens, a World Wide Web site maintained by the staff of The Kansas City Star with help from Johnson County Extension Master Gardeners (JoCo EMGs) and the staff of the Johnson County K-State Research and Extension Office.
Our mission: To help Kansas City-area gardeners with any questions they might have. Answers to your questions come from Extension Master Gardeners and other area gardeners who have dealt with the same problems. We also provide links to other local gardening resources to give you ideas and inspiration.
What’s special about this site: It’s all about the Kansas City area. Our weather and soil conditions are different from other areas, and so are our problems and solutions. We hope to give you help that applies specifically to your garden. And feel free to jump in and submit your own comments and posts!

Joe Pye Weed
I intended to divide and transplant my Joe Pye Weed this fall, but I've been in grad school & haven't had a chance to yet. A hard freeze is coming this weekend. Did I wait until too late in the season, or is this stuff tough enough to transplant now?
questions
First - the 'submit a question' link on the site - doesn't allow you to.
But that said, I am going to turn my whole yard - front and back - into both edible, flowers and herb gardens. I have a large walnut tree on the side of my. That space gets great south sun and I want to plant blueberries and aspargus and some perennials there, but I know there are some plants that do not grow under or near walnuts.
Can you advise?
