My mother is a flower freak and she is coming to visit me from Nebraska next weekend. I have taken her to Powell Gardens and she loved it, just a little bit too much walking. Do you have any suggestions on where I could take her that could live up to that but something new.
The Kauffman Memorial Gardens and Alice P Gorman Discovery Center East of the Plaza would be some place to consider.
I'm not sure why it isn't listed in the links.
Loose Park is ok but it is getting a little sad. I have noticed this year that the city must have cut back on some of it's budget because the bushes are in serious need of trimming, the sidewalks are tagged with graffiti, and I saw rats running around the pond areas stealing duck bread crumbs (which really isnt that surprising).
Here is some other suggestions:
Overland Park Arboretum - the Monet Garden is outstanding. It is close and easy walk, about 179th and Antioch.
John Wornall House, Herb Garden south of the Plaza.
Kaufman Gardens as Hortis indicated
Deanna Rose Farmstead, small demonstration garden
As for Loose Park, give it break this year. Starting this fall it will undergo a major renovation so the inputs have been low this summer. Most of the beds and roses will be removed for grading and replanting.
